Painting has been a passion of mine since I was a child. At James Madison University I majored in art with a concentration in painting. Later I earned a Masters in Art Therapy from Eastern Virginia Medical School and worked as a counselor with adolescents for many years. I am currently focusing on abstract oil painting. Moving away from representational art I have unlocked a more intuitive approach. Without the constraints of realism I am approaching the canvas with renewed freedom and spontaneity. I rely on my training for the basic color, movement and like to play with differing transparencies to highlight the many layers in my paintings.

I find great joy in the painting process and hope that an element of that is captured on the canvas and apparent to the viewer.
