Photography
Photography first captured my interest when my oldest son was born in 1970. In almost no time photography became an important way I connected with my world. After many years of photographing others, I had a life-changing experience in 1998 when I spent two and a half weeks photographing the coast of Maine with an emphasis on exploring Acadia National Park and surrounding areas. This opportunity so moved me that ever since I have devoted all my photography efforts to celebrating the natural world of my home state of Virginia and 20 other states.
I love sharing my photography through my images that I exhibit and sell in galleries, shops, and shows, the classes and workshops that I teach, and my presentations and books. I am proud of having won the grand prize in the Kodak International Snapshot Awards contest. I published my photography book, Natural Virginia, in collaboration with UVA Press in 2014. The success of Natural Virginia, a coffee table book that had 3 printings and sold 5,000 copies, led me to plan a second Virginia book featuring our scenic natural public lands. The shooting for that book is currently in its last stages.
