LIZ HACKNEY
Mixed Media
I first painted in watercolor studying with Lassie Corbet at the Herndon Gallery and taking workshops with the late water media master Alex Powers of Myrtle Beach. After a successful watercolor career, in 2021 I craved to push thick paint around. To avoid smelly solvents I chose water mixable Cobra oil paints mixed with cold wax. I make my own substrates by gluing muslin, linen, or weaver's cloth to plywood followed with several coats of gesso. Armed with painting knives and backpacking techniques, I now enjoy plein air painting around Winchester, capturing the subtle atmospheric color changes.
I exhibit Spring and Fall in "Art at the Mill" in Millwood, VA.
In 2024, my painting "Garden Path" was selected for the national show Flourish at d'Art Center Norfolk, VA.
In 2023, my painting "Charlie's Barn" was selected to be on an Artscape banner in Winchester, VA.
