Kathy Guzman has joined the Founding Board for the Shenarts Co-Op. Here's her bio and a sample of her work.
Born and raised in Northern Virginia, my exposure to art began early - being in close proximity to the abundant resources of the Nation's Capital provided the opportunity for many school field trips to various museums and galleries. My encouragement goes back in time to my high school art teacher, Ray Wilkins. With his help, I applied for and received a semester scholarship at the Corcoran School of Art in 1973 where my painting instructor was Gene Davis. As all of the students around me were pouring paint on raw canvas on the floor, I was creating landscapes and figure paintings.
The plan was that after high school, I would attend a few years at the community college and then see about possibly transferring to Virginia Commonwealth University to finish my art studies. But you know what they say about the best laid plans...
And so it was that I married in 1974 at the age of 19, had our first daughter at age 21 and the second at age 25. I worked full time for the local county government from 1976 until my retirement in January of 2006. Through the years I have kept my art an active part of my life (as I possibly could). I am now able to do my art full time.
I hope to be creating art and growing as an artist for many years to come and look forward to sharing my artwork with you.
